ANZAC DAY AT UPPER COOMERA 2017 PROGRAM
Community Service by the Rotary Club of Coomera Valley.

2017 details
The Rotary Club of Coomera Valley is again pleased to be running the Upper Coomera March and Service. This year there are a few changes to our regular service as a result of;

  • The unfortunate damage to the John Muntz Causeway and,
  • The development of the vacant block on the corner of Charles Crossing Road adjacent to the Cenotaph.
Community members living in Oxenford should allow additional time to travel time. We suggest that you allow an additional 30 to 45 minutes .

The development of the vacant block has required us to  rearrange seating layouts, reduce the number of shade tents and plan different seating arrangement for students to allow us to manage the service and subsequent re opening of the road after the service. We ask that community members bear with us and look to the Rotarians in their safety vests for direction.

With the reduction in shade tents we encourage all community members to be well prepared with sun hats, sunscreen and personal water supplies.

The Club and the Upper Coomera Rural Fire brigade is providing appropriate first aid officers and supplies of water at the service location. Should you require the assistance contact a Rotarian or a member of the Rural Fire brigade.

We are thankful to B Squadron of the 2nd 14th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry) Gallipoli Bks for providing the Catafalque Party and providing the Anzac address. They will be ably supported by the 10th Army Cadet Group.

The march will be led by the Surfers Paradise Brass band and they will be supported by the Saint Stephens Drum line. The Saint Stephens Choir will this year be leading us in hymns and anthems at the Cenotaph.

We invite the Community to visit the Upper Coomera School of Arts hall to view the historical display of War records and personal details of the local lads who gave their lives for our country and are recognized on the Cenotaph.

We also invite the community to share in a Community Sausage sizzle at Siganto park after the event to whilst the crowd disperses.

Finally, so that we can celebrate Anzac day safely please take care on the roads.

Please;
  • Observe all road rules
  • Walk on footpaths and not on road verges
  • Remember Reserve Road is only closed between 9.00 am and 9.30 am whilst the March is in progress. It will be re-opened as soon as the last marcher has cleared the intersection with Tamborine Oxenford Road.
  • Tamborine Oxenford road will be closed until 20 minutes after the Service is completed. All pedestrian traffic must clear the area within this time and exit on public footpath. Cars will not be allowed to exit the March area until 20 minutes after the event
